Getting traffic an earning money with a blog is every blogger's dream. You laid out some really good tips that any beginner or experienced blogger should take a look at. I'll share with my network and definitely Stumble It Up.

I recently shot an episode for FDTV about using your blog to build your personal brand that I feel is very relevant to what you're writing about. You can view the episode here.

Let me know what you think. I'd love to get your feedback.

Dave, that was awesome: Score 51 out of 50. Thanks for posting: You've made a number of things clear to me that I was missing.

Thank you, thank you. I pay obeisance to you! I love meeting generous people that give out solid information on line without having to pay for it especially when in six months, it will be common internet sense to me. Thank you.

This is awesome and amazing information. I will refer back to it often and more importantly, utilize the information.

For instance, I recently signed up with constant contacts. I will check out aweber and see how that goes. I was told constant contacts was more user friendly and I am so not a geek so I need all the help I can get.

Again, thanks for putting your wealth of information out there.

Definitely opened my eyes to several things.

I need to promote others blogs more via the social services: Mixx, Digg, Sphinn, ect.

My ratio is not 10 to 1 in fact it's probably the opposite. It's been something I've struggled with tremendously as I've started with my own blog.

    Thanks for these tips.

I've just been re-modelling my blog since your post has opened my eyes about a few things.

    One thing to add:
If you have the links such as 'Connect to Me' if you add in
target="_blank" into the oced then the links will open in a new window and so not overwrite your blog article. Just thought I'd mention it just in case someone decides to investigate more while reading a post :-)

    Regards,
    Karen

That last comment was meant to say in ....
Obviously it picked up the code! Doh!
  • Karen Leslie · 10 months ago
Okay one more shot it's in the a href code block....

Great article as usual. I haven't even finished reading it, but had to make sure to thank you about 'RSS to email' option. I'm moving back to email for my subscriptions because I found myself not reading what I RSSed to. Which, other than being self defeating, I felt was dishonest to people I admire enough to save their links. Emails are more 'in my face' to remind me I NEED to read what I save.
Now, back to your article. :-)

Wow..great list! Like the way you didn't just say "..add great content"..but instead detailed what great content is. I totally agree with tip #24..Do lots of videos..but haven't used video on my site yet...just a bit nervous..however, good writing supplemented with video content is a must-have today. Thanks again!

This is a great list thanks ...... really interesting on how to increase traffic...... it sounds great..... and the increased traffic can be leveraged to make an income....? But you seem to be lacking a pretty important extra component...... How do you make an income from your traffic?

This guy (link below) breaks a number of your rules, but nevertheless I think he has succeeded due to the fact that overall he was acting in sync with your rules, and most importantly, HE ACTED.

A very good synopsis of the components that make up a successful blog. Use every means possible within your blog to attract your audience. There is only one item that I feel is missing here, and that is to include podcasts in your blog also. 38% of the population are Auditory learners. You will attract another whole segment of audience with this method.

A lot of methods to use for your own blog. I use many of the methods mentioned. Great refresher to see what i am not using. Thanks David.

    Hi Folks,

Running an internet business is the same as running a high-street business.

    There are no shortcuts.

One thing I've learn is that the more time you spend ‘planning ’ you're business, the more likely it is to grow.

Spend 1 week working on your business plan before you start—otherwise you're
    whistling in the wind.

    Regards,

    Ivan Walsh
